563 posts of junior assistants in the school education department were filled on Thursday through online counselling across the State, according to officials.
K. Devarajan, director of school education, said the entire process was conducted transparently online. According to an official, there are a total of 1,058 vacancies in the State for the post of junior assistants in schools and offices of district educational officers and assistant educational officers of which 563 were filled.
According to an official, while TNPSC is the selection authority, the school education department is the appointing authority.
Of the 32 districts, the number of candidates exceeded the number of vacancies in the seven districts of Kancheepuram, Madurai, Namakkal, Theni, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar, an official said.
Those candidates who could not be allotted their district were asked to choose the nearest district, through counselling in the chief educational officer’s (CEO) office, an official said.
“Earlier, candidates would have to travel to one centre for counselling. Now, provisions have been made to conduct counselling in CEO’s office in all the 32 districts,” an official said.
An official said while a majority of the 556 posts of junior assistants filled three months ago were for education department offices, the majority in Thursday’s counselling were for schools.
The candidates had been selected based on the results of the TNPSC group IV exam.
