K. Sivathamby, Tamil scholar from Sri Lanka, conveyed to the State government that he would come to Tamil Nadu well in advance to participate in the World Classical Tamil Conference to be held in Coimbatore in June 2010, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said on Monday.

In a statement, Mr. Karunanidhi said Prof. Sivathamby had suggested topics including the concept of Classical Languages and the World Classical Languages other than Tamil, the Constitutional position of languages of India and Tamil as Classical Language.

Reacting to reports in a section of the press that many scholars including Prof. Sivathamby would not attend the meet, Mr. Karunanidhi criticised them for attempting to ensure that the efforts aimed at the growth of Tamil and development of Tamils did not succeed.
