Ace lensman Santosh Sivan will deliver the prestigious ‘Masterclass’, an event of British Film Institute (BFI), as part of its London Indian Film Festival next month.
In an interview to The Hindu in the city on Tuesday, Mr. Sivan said he had been called to deliver the class on July 11.
He stated that he was ‘delighted’ to have been invited to speak at BFI, where his internationally acclaimed film ‘The Terrorist’ premiered in the U.K. Mr. Sivan said he would talk about how his unique cultural background had influenced his craft, rather than bore the audience with dry technical details of cinematography.
“I am from Kerala but I have worked throughout the country. So my work has been influenced by various sensibilities,” he said.
This will be the first time Mr. Santosh will be speaking to an audience at BFI.
“I have shot a couple of films in Britain, including some sequences at BFI South Bank, for Gurinder Chadha’s ‘Bride and Prejudice’. I have also been periodically giving my inputs for BFI’s magazine Sight and Sound . It feels great to be speaking to an audience that understands cinema and is curious about my work.”
The London Indian film festival, which has emerged as a prominent platform for Indian indie films in Europe, will also feature a talk by actor, filmmaker and producer Farhan Akhtar on July 16.
