With the higher secondary examination results declared, the focus has shifted to office of the Chief Education Officer and the District Educational Offices in the city. Sale of application forms for getting photocopies of the answerscript of the examination and re-totalling of the marks began on Wednesday.
A bevy of activity and serpentine queues were seen at the offices.
Confusion prevailed as many had come to the Directorate of Government Examination in DPI Complex, to purchase application forms, unaware that the forms were not being sold there this time.
Braving the heat
Many parents such as Angel Benitta, a resident of Tiruvottiyur, went to the DPI only to be directed to go to the nearest office of the DEO.
“It was chaos today. We also had to get a demand draft from a nationalised bank, but the bank ran out of challan slips. Then I went to a branch in Pudupet,” said Ms.Benitta, who left home in the morning to complete the work by 3.30 p.m.
M. Narendran, an engineering student, also had a similar complaint. “Only after coming here were we told that only demand drafts would be accepted,” said Narendran, who spent at least three hours at the Ambedkar Government High School in Egmore, one of the offices of the DEO.
Many who braved the heat to fill application forms at this centre said facilities were poor.
People were seen sitting on the floor or using the two-wheeler seat as benches to fill forms.
“This year, application forms are being sold at five offices to reduce crowding and this was announced well in advance,” said a senior official of the School Education department.
Applying for a photocopy of the answerscript is the first step for a student seeking re-totalling.
Last year, around 65,000 photocopies of answer-scripts of Class XII examination were sought in the State, while in 2009, it was 43,000 copies.
“In Chennai, 15,000 photocopies were sought last year,” said the senior official.
College admission
Several arts and science colleges have also started issuing application forms for admissions.
Many are even planning to complete the process this week itself.
“We go by the rules set by the Directorate of Collegiate Education, which states that sale of application forms must commence from the date of publication of class XII results. This can continue for a minimum of 10 working days,” said S. Narasimhan, Principal of D.G. Vaishnav College.
“We have also introduced online registration of application forms to reduce queue and make it user-friendly for students,” he added.
