A few technical issues have to be addressed before Chennai Metro is thrown open to the public, said officials of commissioner of metro rail safety (CMRS).

“We conducted a detailed inspection over two days and examined various aspects. Though we were largely satisfied, there are some issues Chennai Metro Rail Limited has to address,” an official said. The full report of the inspection team will be sent within a week or 10 days, he said. “The issues are not major, but we don’t know when they will sort them out,” the official said.

CMRS officials from Bengaluru had inspected the Metro stations (from Koyambedu to Ashok Nagar), viaduct and the operational control centre (OCC) of Chennai Metro over the past two days. All trains of Chennai Metro can be monitored from the OCC.

CMRS officials carried out their first inspection of rolling stock early this month and have already recommended sanction to Chennai Metro. CMRS certification is a statutory requirement for Chennai Metro to become operational. The first service of Chennai Metro will run from Koyambedu to Alandur, a distance of 10 km.
