Run for breast cancer awareness

March 01, 2014 11:00 am | Updated May 19, 2016 05:38 am IST - CHENNAI:

On April 13, the city will host the first edition of MIOT Pinkathon Chennai 2014 – a women’s running event for the cause of breast cancer awareness. Chennai is one of the six cities to host the 10-kilometre run this year. Last year, almost 12,000 women participated in Pinkathon held across four cities.

Actor Milind Soman, event promoter, said Pinkathon was started in Mumbai in 2012 to increase awareness on women’s health, particularly on breast cancer screening. “We noticed that women in the country neglected their health. Running and walking are the easiest things to start with for a fitter lifestyle,” he told reporters on Friday.

“We need women who have fought and conquered cancer to talk about their fight and how they lead their lives. This will give confidence for people to go for screening and treatment,” Prithvi Mohandas, joint managing director, MIOT Hospitals said.

Women can register for 10 km, five km or three km run on Pinkathon’s official website – www.pinkathon.in. Registration desks will be set up at malls during the weekend.

Maximus Events has joined hands with Women’s Cancer Initiative for the run. Vocalist Bombay Jayashri was present at the press conference.
