Regional Transport Officers (RTO) collected feedback from passengers at 80 places across the city about the functioning of meters in autorickshaws recently.
In most parts of the city, this was done between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday. RTO officials, along with representatives of Tamil Nadu Consumer Protection Organisation, asked passengers travelling in autorickshaws to fill in a form. “We asked them whether drivers were turning on the meters, if they refused to ply and how they behaved,” said S. Sridharan, Aynavaram RTO.
Over 2,000 passengers across the city gave their feedback to the RTOs. “Most of them said there was no problem. However, there were complaints about overcharging by some autorickshaw drivers and issues regarding some refusing to ply to particular destinations. We will take necessary action,” a senior transport department official said.
The RTOs have also taken the mobile phone numbers of the passengers. Meanwhile, the transport department has started counselling sessions for autorickshaw drivers in all the RTOs. On Friday, around 180 drivers took part in a session in RTO office (North).
