RTOs check fitness of school buses

The Road Safety Council headed by Chennai Collector V. Anbuselvan has begun inspection of school vehicles for issuing fitness certificates from Tuesday.

While inspections of school buses were completed for the vehicles registered with four Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), the RTO of North West and North carried out inspection on Thursday. The fitness check up of these school vehicles were carried out at Kolathur.

A senior official of RTO North West said a total of 111 school buses were to be inspected of which 96 vehicles were present. While 88 vehicles had passed the fitness certificate, eight vehicles were rejected for not complying with the guidelines under the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles (Regulation and Control of School Buses), Special Rules 2012.

The RTO official said vehicle inspection would be carried out for RTOs of South East, East and Central on May 19 and 22.
