The government, on Tuesday, announced that Rs. 6.86 crore had been sanctioned for completing work on the dome of the new multi-specialty hospital coming up at Omandurar estate.
A temporary dome was built by art director Thotta Tharani at a cost of Rs. 3 crore during the inauguration of the complex in March 2010.
A sum of Rs. 26.93 crore had been sanctioned for completing the civil work in the form of structural changes and Rs. 76.04 crore allocated for purchase of medical equipment and furniture. A total of Rs. 2 crore had also been sanctioned for mosquito eradication measures.
The focus is now on putting finishing touches to the operation theatres and rooms housing equipment such as MRI, CT scan and Cath lab. A four-slice CT scan has been installed and the MRI machine is in the process of being assembled.
Specialists in various disciplines from Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital are supervising the installation of machines. The specialists’ expertise has been sought for lighting, drainage and conducting swab tests in the theatres. Health department officials say structural alterations to suit the equipment are being made.
With the extension of the ramp to the sixth floor, civil works at the multi-speciality hospital have almost been completed.
