Rotary Club of Madras gets 84th president

The 84 president of the Rotary Club of Madras was announced at a function at Taj Connemara on Tuesday. Rotarian Rajendran Sabanayagam was inducted as the new president of the 230 member club, along with a new team of office bearers. His predecessor Nandita Krishnan formally handed the charge over to Mr. Sabanayagam.

An active Rotarian, Mr. Sabanayagam served as Chairman of various committees in clubs and community services before being elected as the nominee for President.

The theme of 2012-13 for the new panel of office bearers of the Rotary club is to attend, belong and contribute. Apart from other proceedings at the function, future contributions and service projects for the coming year were also announced.

Padma Shri awardee Sudha Raghunathan, a reputed Carnatic vocalist, sang the invocation commencing the programme.

World chess champion Vishwanathan Anand was also present at the function and was inducted as an honorary member of the club.
