The All India Conference on Obstetrics and Gynaecology, scheduled to be formally inaugurated on Thursday, started with the demonstration of a surgery for a woman suffering from endometriosis.
Meenakshi Sundaram, endoscopic consultant and robotic surgeon at Apollo Hospitals, who performed the robotic surgery said, “It is possible to deal with a number of gynaecological problems through robotic surgery, which involves less blood loss and is minimally invasive.”
The four-day medical conference will take place at Chennai Trade Centre and will be inaugurated by Jacob Kumaresan, executive director, WHO.
There will also be a rally led by Suchitra Pandit, president, Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Society of India, on Thursday, to raise awareness of adolescent health.
There will also be sessions by local and international faculty on a number of topics, including robotic surgery in gynaecology, obesity and fertility and public stem cell banking, a release said.
