February 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:01 am IST - CHENNAI:

Over four months after being hit on the head with an iron rod by robbers, a 42-year-old woman died on Thursday after being in coma for over three months.

The gang stole over 80 sovereigns of gold and Rs. 98,000 from her house, and also killed the woman’s pet dog.

The police are yet to find a breakthrough in the case.

Annalatha, mother of two teenage daughters, was alone in her house on Anna Nagar 4thStreet, Thirumullaivoyal, on the afternoon of October 30, when the robbers struck.

It is suspected four men killed the family’s dog, tied in the backyard, before targeting Annalatha in the drawing room. Annalatha slipped in and out of coma after the attack and breathed her last around 2 a.m. on Thursday at a private hospital in Ayanambakkam.

Incidentally, the victim’s house was located hardly 200 metres from the Thirumullaivoyal police station (the station was shifted to a different location in December).
