The much-awaited road-laying works in Nandhivaram-Guduvanchery Town Panchayat in Kancheepuram district commenced last week. The town panchayat has earmarked Rs. 2 crore for laying the road, which was badly affected during the heavy rain in December last year.
The Executive Engineer of Nandhivaram-Guduvanchery Town Panchayat, M. Venkatesh said though the estimates were prepared, the town panchayat had sought permission through the Directorate of Town Panchayats to draw funds from the Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Financial Services Limited for road works. “Once the fund was allocated under the Tamil Nadu Urban Road Infrastructure Project scheme, all tenders were accepted in Udhayasooriyan Nagar, and Amudham Colony,” he said. Remaining road works would begin soon,” he added.
“Tenders have been floated for laying Nandhivaram Colony Road and other adjoining roads and once the process is over, work will begin,” Mr. Venkatesh said.
For 2016-17, a proposal has been sent through Directorate of Town Panchayats to relay and repair other roads. The estimates include Rs. 2 crore throughTURIP scheme, another Rs. 2 crore from Nabard and Rs. 1.5 crore from flood mitigation fund. S. Viswanathan of Udhayasooriyan Nagar said that the deluge in December had inundated several areas in the locality, particularly the main mud road from GST Road.
