Work to widen a 12-km stretch of phase II of the Oragadam Industrial Corridor is expected to be completed in a year’s time.
The Rs. 96.40-crore six-landing work from Oragadam to Sriperumbudur will provide better connectivity to the Bangalore Highway (NH 4) and then, to the Chennai Port.
Sources in the Tamil Nadu Road Infrastructure Development Corporation, which is executing the project, said that since the road has many heavy industries on either side, the service lanes would be of two-lane width each. “Trucks carrying containers will need that much space to turn, which is why we decided to have service lanes of two-lane width,” the source explained.
This stretch is part of the 24-km long Phase II of the Corridor from Singaperumal Koil to Sriperumbudur and is being widened to six lanes due to the high density of traffic.
“The other roads in the corridor are of four lanes width and this is the first stretch to be made into six lanes,” the source added.
