Revolving funds distributed

A total of 53,160 women have formed 3,544 self-help groups in Chennai up to February 15 in the current fiscal, said Mayor M.Subramanian.

Speaking at a function organised to distribute revolving funds to 500 SHGs here on Thursday, he said, “More than 3.8 lakh women of 23,963 SHGs in Chennai have made a savings of Rs.102.48 crore so far.”

Around 7,500 groups have been created in Chennai in the last three years because of the support of the government and banks, he added. Revolving funds have been distributed to 2,800 SHGs this year.

At the function, a total of 500 SHGs received Rs.10,000 each as revolving fund and Rs.50,000 as bank loans. The total amount disbursed as loan to SHGS so far in Chennai has been Rs.276.69 crore.

The Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women has imparted skill development training to 1,200 youths this year at a cost of over Rs.1 crore, said one of its officials. The number of women beneficiaries of the skill development training has crossed 1,200 so far, he added.
