Residents of Krishna Nagar and Jayalakshmi Nagar in Zamin Pallavaram have been appealing to the local body administration and State government in vain for years to create a link road for the benefit of a few hundred families living there.

In the absence of such a road, residents of these two colonies have to take a circuitous route for more than four kilometres to reach their polling booths during elections and the cremation ground near Subham Nagar.

Zamin Pallavaram Krishna Nagar Residents Welfare Association president, A.J. Ethiraj said the issue was pending with the municipality since 2001. He added that appeals to the administration and elected representatives had been futile.

S. Ramkumar of Jayalakshmi Nagar said increasing the height of the Moovarasanpet-Tirusulam Link Road resulted in residential colonies ending up at a lower level, causing frequent water stagnation.

Residents said that in 2010, when Pallavaram Municipality began road laying work in Subham Nagar, some residents had protested. The municipality decided to shift the link road to other sites, but there were protests again. The present alignment was selected and work began in December 2013, but was stalled by Public Works Department, citing non-compliance with procedures.

Residents now want the municipality to pursue this issue with PWD. Municipal officials said they would coordinate with the PWD and initiate measures to fulfil the demand.
