Residents and road users have made an appeal to the authorities concerned to have fish vendors operating on A. G. S. Colony Beach Main Road, off Lakshmana Perumal Avenue, Kuppam Beach Road, relocated. They want the fish vendors on East Coast Road, Kottivakkam, to be moved out too.

“The fish vendors and buyers, who are found in large numbers, occupy a considerable portion of the A.G.S. Colony Beach Main Road. The buyers park their vehicles in a haphazard manner, affecting free flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The narrow stretch is used by vehicle users to reach Adyar, and Besant Nagar from Neelankarai, and by walkers going to the Palavakkam and Neelankarai Beaches,” residents of A.G.S. Colony, said.

“The charm of this serene residential stretch seems to have been diminished by the overpowering stench from rotten fish wastes that have been dumped on the stretch.” Though the vendors have been allocated a marketplace on East Coast Road, they refuse to move in citing lack of space, the residents pointed out.

At present, the market is used as a storing point. On the eastern side of East Coast Road, vendors have occupied more than 100 metres.
