Visitors to 39th India Tourist and Industrial Fair can get samples tested at Chennai Metrowater’s stall

Visitors to the ongoing 39th India Tourist and Industrial Fair at the Island Grounds could get groundwater samples tested at the Chennai Metrowater’s pavilion.

Metrowater staff members at the pavilion have arranged for the testing of the water samples at a concessional rate of Rs. 50. Consumers otherwise would have to visit the Metrowater head office at Chintadripet to test the quality of the water at a cost of Rs. 75.

Consumers may bring the water samples in two-litre, clean plastic containers.

The samples would be tested for 13 parameters, including turbidity, total dissolved solids, chloride, calcium and iron content in the water analysis laboratory located at no.1, New Avadi Road, Kilpauk. Consumers may collect the results about the water quality from the laboratory at Kilpauk after ten working days. The results would also be sent to the consumers by post against an additional payment of Rs. 10, a press release said.

Officials of the Metrowater said that visitors to the pavilion may also check about water charges to be remitted and water and sewerage tax arrears at a kiosk installed at the pavilion. However, there is no facility to remit the charges at the pavilion. People may make use of the facility every day from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Visitors could also learn about the network and operation of the water agency through various models, including that of the sewage treatment plants in Kodungaiyur and Perungudi and the upcoming desalination plant at Nemmeli, and about sourcing of drinking water from the Veeranam tank in Cuddalore district.
