Residents of Kasikuttai village in Senoor panchayat in Katpadi on Friday submitted a petition to Collector S.A. Raman against the opening of a Tasmac shop in the village.

One of the residents said there were already two Tasmac shops in the panchayat, and now, a third one was coming up in the village. “The building is ready, and we received information that the stock of liquor bottles would be brought in two days. Hence, about 200 of us approached the Collector to submit a petition that the shop be not opened,” he said.

Vicinity of school

In the petition, the villagers said there was a Government Higher Secondary School in Kasikuttai, and students from in and around areas such as Pallava Nagar had to cross the Tasmac shop to reach the school.

“We have to cross the shop to travel to the Primary Health Centre at Senoor. Women have to go past the shop to fetch water from the public tap every day. If the shop comes up in the village, it will cause a lot of hardship for all of us, especially women and students,” he added.

He said the Collector had promised to look into their petition.
