Residents protest frequent power outages

September 24, 2012 04:11 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 04:09 am IST - CHENNAI:

Residents of Adyar and Thiruvanmiyur took to the streets on Sunday to protest unscheduled power cuts over the past few days.

While the scheduled power cut is between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m., they had faced outages at 8.45 p.m. over the past three days, residents claimed, adding that power returned after 11 p.m.

Residents also complained of power fluctuation. Prema Jayapprakash, a resident of Aishwarya Colony in Indira Nagar, said her kitchen appliances had taken a beating because of it. Vasanthi Srinivasan, whose son studies in a college in the outskrits of the city, says he has to wake up after 12 in the night to complete his assignments.

The angry residents dispersed later. Stephen B., assistant executive engineer, Indira Nagar, said: “There was a problem near SRP Tools junction. It has been rectified now.”
