March 26, 2013 02:23 am | Updated 10:58 am IST - KANCHEEPURAM:

A group of residents from Chellaperumal Nagar in Sriperumpudur town panchayat has opposed the construction of a building, allegedly to house a TASMAC outlet in the area.

In a memorandum submitted to the district administration on Monday, they alleged a structure with provisions for a spacious bar facility was being constructed on private premises.

The person behind the project had ignored the public protest and continued the construction on the site.

Residents stated they were already facing hardship due to the already existing TASMAC shop, located at around 100 metres from the new site. Further, this site was just 250 metres away from the National Highway and an old age home, an educational institution and a worship place were also located within a 100 metre radius, they said.

Meanwhile, a group of residents from Vinayakapuram on the Kancheepuram-Vellore Road submitted a memorandum to the district administration seeking closure of a road-side TASMAC shop in their area.
