Residents fear encroachment

March 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

Residents of Andal Avenue in Velachery fear landsharks are waiting to grab vacant land designated as Open Space Reservation in their area. The residents complained that officials of the Corporation have not bothered to protect the space.

C. Kuppuswamy, secretary, Andal Avenue Welfare Association, said the space measuring around 1,500 square feet was allotted for constructing a community hall when the layout was formed in 1994. It remained vacant all through. On March 23, residents were shocked to find construction activity in the vacant plot. Officials have not replied to queries, complained residents.

An official said a wall was being constructed to protect the property.
