Acclaimed artist A.P. Shreethar, who has painted his way into many an art gallery across the world, is now all set to make his debut on the silver screen.

He will feature in the lead role in director Jaishankar’s film Andhra Mess . The young director said the film revolves around a heist gone wrong and does not have the regular trappings — hero, villain, or a heroine — of a typical Tamil film.

“Shreethar has done a good job,” he said. Shreethar said this was the first time he was acting in a film and that it was a very different experience.

“Director Jai approached me, saying he had seen a photo of mine along with P.C. Sreeram and asked if I would like to act. When he explained the story line, I was quite impressed,” he said.

Another ‘Superstar’ Rajinikanth title is all set to make a re-entry on Tamil films screens; but the new Naan Sigappu Manithan , featuring Vishal in the lead, is borrowing only the title.

The story is entirely new and different, promised director Thiru, who is directing Vishal for the third time in a row after making his debut with him in Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai and following it up with the hit Samar .

Naan Sigappu Manithan was originally just the working title for the project,” he said. “But as we completed the film, we realised we could not think of a better title. So, all proper permissions were secured and the title blocked.”

The film’s audio album, set to tunes by G.V. Prakash Kumar, is set to launch in mid March. The director said a club mix of a number titled ‘Lovely Ladies’ is likely to be a chart-topper. A Rajinikanth fan himself, Thiru said the film will live up to the respect a ‘Superstar’ title warrants.

The trailer for the film that was launched on YouTube recently has garnered hugely positive reviews.

It features the hero played by Vishal as a character suffering from narcolepsy — a neurological disorder that induces sudden sleep in people at any given point of time.

An announcement that has sparked widespread excitement among film fans is the reunion of Uthiripookkal fame Mahendran and maestro Ilayaraja.

The director is making his comeback after seven years; his last outing being the 2006 Arvind Swamy-starrer Saasanam and Ilayaraja is all set to score the music for the film.

Fans of the yesteryear cinema are looking forward to Mahendran and Ilayaraaja rekindling some old magic together.

Cashing in on the debates and discussions, especially on the Prime Ministerial candidate, in the run-up to elections, actor and playwright S.Ve. Shekher launched his new play Modhi Vilayadu Paapa recently.

The plot, he said, is a remake of his 20-year-old play Eppavum Nee Raja . “We have modified the script and added a few scenes to suit the current trend. Just as in all my other plays, this too will be political satire and will have witty remarks on contemporary issues interspersed within the context,” he said.

The title too is a clearly a pun.
