It was a memorable day for the batchmates of the Short Service Commission – 12 of the Officers Training Academy, St. Thomas Mount, who got together to unveil the statue of late Ramaswamy Parameswaran, who passed out along with them 46 years ago.
His batchmates decided to present to the Academy a life-sized statue of the soldier who had laid down his life in defence of the nation in Sri Lanka.
The 6-feet tall bronze statue weighs a total of 300 kg. It was unveiled by Lieutenant General Ram Pratap and Colonel Rama Krishnan, the senior most officer of the course, in the presence of Lieutenant General Rajan Ravindran, Commandant, OTA, along with R. Ramanathan, younger brother of Major Parameswaran.
‘Only awardee from OTA’
Lieutenant General Rajan Ravindran recalled that Major Parameswaran was one of the 21 recipients of the nation’s highest gallantry award, the Param Vir Chakra.
He was the only officer from the OTA to have been conferred with this honour.
