The bodies of two suspects killed along with three accomplices on February 23 in a police encounter in connection with the bank robbery case, were handed over to their relatives on Monday afternoon. They were taken to Bangalore by train to proceed to Patna later.
Police sources said the Gurha Prasad, grandfather of suspect Vinay Prasad, and Jitendar Yadav, uncle of suspect Rajiv Kumar alias Harish Kumar came to the city on Monday accompanied by Bihar Police personnel, a few relatives of the suspects and representatives from their native villages in Nalanda district in Bihar.
Around 3 p.m., Prasad and Yadav identified the respective bodies at the mortuary of the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and their statements were recorded by the Metropolitan Magistrate Geetha Rani inside the hospital as part of the judicial enquiry. Police personnel and others accompanying them were marked as witnesses. A CBCID team made enquiries with the relatives, sources said.
After the formalities, the two bodies were handed over to the relatives in the evening and they went to Bangalore by train. On Tuesday, the bodies are expected to be taken to Patna by train to the Bahapar and Milkipur villages respectively.
Earlier, the body of Sujay Kumar Rai alias Vinod Kumar who was suspected to be the kingpin of the gang involved in the bank robbery was taken to Patna by relatives on a flight. The bodies of two more suspects are yet to be identified. No one has claimed the bodies that are lying in the GH mortuary.
On February 23, five men including Sujay, Vinay and Rajiv were gunned down by police in an encounter inside a house in Velachery. The gang was suspected to be involved in two bank robberies in the city.
