She simultaneously enrolled for B.Ed, B.A.(English) courses and passed both
The Madras High Court has directed the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) to appoint a woman who did her degree and B.Ed courses simultaneously to the post of Graduate Assistant Teacher in a government school in an existing or future vacancy at the earliest.
Justice D. Hariparanthaman passed the order on a petition by L. Kavitha.
The petitioner submitted that she joined B.Ed course in a college affiliated to Periyar University as a regular student during 2006-07.
She also joined the B.A. (English) course in Annamalai University through distance education. She passed both the examinations.
Her name was sponsored by the employment exchange to the TRB for appointment to the post of Graduate Assistant Teacher in 2009-10.
She was called for certificate verification in April last year. She was not selected on the ground that the double degrees, B.A. and B.Ed, undergone at the same time could not be accepted.
During arguments, she produced information obtained through RTI Act, which stated there was precedence in the issue.
Mr. Justice Hariparanthaman said the petitioner had obtained information wherein the TRB had stated that the double degree was acceptable to it.
