The Rotary Club of Madras East has conferred Dr . M.S. Swaminathan Award for Environment Protection on Dr. Sartaj Aziz, Vice Chancellor Beacon House National University, Lahore, for his contribution to fighting poverty and working towards sustainable development.
The award was given at a function held at Hotel Adyar Park Sheraton on August 8. Tamil Nadu Governor, Dr. K. Rosaiah, was the chief guest for the function.
From 1995, the club has been recognising the efforts of those few who have displayed a sense of commitment to protecting the environment and helping the society by giving the award.
The award is instituted in the name of Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, who was the honorary member of the club.
