Reaping it rich by jumping parties

The two leaders who reaped rich harvests from jumping political parties are Panruti S. Ramachandran and Su. Thirunavukkarasar.

The late Rangarajan Kumaramangalam – his grandfather K. Subbarayan and Mohan Kumaramangalam also jumped parties – made a powerful Union Minister with the portfolio of power after he quit the Congress and joined the BJP.

S. Ramachandran, the DMK's student wing leader in Annamalai University, and an engineer by training became a Minister in the DMK Cabinet before joining the AIADMK. He was a Minister in MGR’s Cabinet too.

Even during his brief stint with the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), he was allotted the Panruti seat and became the only MLA of the party. He left the PMK to run his own outfit for some time before joining hands with actor Vijayakant. He was made the presidium chairman of the DMDK and later the party's deputy leader in the Assembly. He is once again in the AIADMK and has been given the post of organisation secretary.

Su. Thirunaukkarasar was one of the youngest faces in MGR’s cabinet. After MGR’s demise he supported Ms. Jayalalithaa. Soon he fell out of favour and launched his own political party.

As a political leader extremely popular in his home district of Pudukottai, the BJP wooed him with an MP’s post (from Madhya Pradesh) and even accommodated him in its Cabinet.

He chose to join the Congress when the BJP was out of power for ten years. Now there is talk that he is one of the leaders whose name is considered for the post of the TNCC leadership.

Su.Thiruna-vukarassar is being considered for TNCC leadership
