Nearly a month ago, a group of friends formed the Adyar Government Library Readers’ Circle. This readers’ circle is longer than its date of inception suggests. For, these friends have been meeting informally, since December 2014, to discuss literature, history, art and culture.

“Eminent personalities such as K.R.A Narasaiah, writer, and Charuhasan, actor, have been part of the informal meet-ups,” says author Vaiyavan, who is the president of the readers’ circle, which currently has ten members.

At its meet-ups, the circle has released books, which include translation of the Bhagavat Gita into English and Tamil by Vaiyavan and D. Mahadevan’s book titled Mella Tamil Ini .

The group has organised meetings to pay homage to personalities like Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, K. Balachandar (film director); Jayakanthan (writer) and Vanathi Thirunavukkarasu (publisher).

The centenary celebration of Tamil Haiku is among the first major events organised after the formation of the readers circle. The circle’s next meet-up is scheduled for January 26. In this session, members will discuss the works of Lt. Col. Pavadai Ganesan, a war veteran, and author Vaiyavan.

Adyar Government Library Readers Circle will be organising its meet-ups every second Saturday or Sunday at Gandhi Nagar Government Public Library, Ramachandra Adithanar Salai in Gandhi Nagar, Adyar.
