The two-lane Kasturibai Nagar Main Road in Adyar, lined with trees on both sides, has bitumen-topped streets branching off it. It also sports a posh look.

Beyond the charm, lurks danger. The road poses a threat to the safety of motorists. The road is narrow, and is without a median, which encourages rash driving.

“Many residents use this road as it enbles them to reach adjoining localities faster through streets in Kasturibai Nagar. In their eyes, it is more appealing than the congested Sardar Patel Road,” says S. Chidambaram, a resident of Adyar.

The lack of safety features, which include a median, warning signboards, reflectors and speed-breakers, is a fly in the ointment.

Corporation, residents say, should place speed breakers and light reflectors at the points where Kasturibai Nagar Main Road intersects with the streets to prevent rash driving.

A corporation official says, “Steps will be taken to prevent accidents on the stretch by providing more safety features.”
