Rang Mahal brings Bengal to Chennai

Rang Mahal, representing the conglomeration of West Bengal weavers from Nadia district, is organising an exhibition-cum-sale of exclusively designed handloom saris and dress materials at Chettiar Hall, Old No. 165, New No. 74, T.T.K. Road, Alwarpet, from October 30 to November 11. This year, ancient craft of three shuttle weaving and interlocking weft are ornamented with unusual motifs, inspired from temples, sculptures and architecture. Cotton yarns blended with organic fibres from fruits/vegetable extracts render smoother drape and a nice fall. Also available are Tangail Nakshi border sari, Jalchuri sari, embossed Baluchar cotton sari, and Jamdani sari. Prices range from Rs. 500 to Rs. 8,000.

A huge variant of Resham saris (wild silk), which are hand painted, sketched or embroidered, are also on display. Price starts from Rs. 2,400. The dress materials are completely hand-woven in colourful hues. The exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (including Sundays and holidays).
