Three zones to be covered by new contractor
Hyderabad-based Ramky Enviro Engineers has emerged the lowest bidder for the 7-year conservancy contract in 88 sq km of the expanded Corporation limits.
The civic body on Tuesday opened financial bids for selection of the operator for collection, segregation, transportation and disposal of garbage in the zones of Teynampet (Zone IX), Kodambakkam (Zone X) and Adyar (Zone XIII).
Malaysia-based SMC and UAE-based MBM Dallah were the other companies that qualified for the technical bid.
The Corporation Council would take a decision on the conservancy contractor on Wednesday and work order be issued the next day. The company would get 40 days to begin conservancy operations.
The existing conservancy contractor, Neel Metal Fanalca, was entrusted with the conservancy work in four old zones – Pulianthope, Triplicane, Adyar and Kodambakkam. The company would operate till December 31.
Of the three zones to be covered by the new conservancy contractor, Adyar with 13 wards has the largest area of 40.36 sq km. The Adyar zone covers areas such as Thiruvanmiyur, Guindy, R.A.Puram, Adyar, and Velachery and has a population of 4.93 lakh residents.
Teynampet zone with 25.19 sq km is spread across 18 wards in areas such as Mylapore, Santhome, Chepauk, Triplicane, Nungambakkam, Thousand Lights, Royapettah and Alwarpet. A total of 7.54 lakh residents are in the zone.
Kodambakkam is the smallest among the three with an area of 22.4 sq km with 16 wards in areas including Virugambakam, Vadapalani, Saligramam, T.Nagar, Saidapet, and Kodambakkam. The zone has a population of 6.43 lakh.
