The Madras High Court on Wednesday granted an injunction till September 25 restraining Varsha Productions, Mumbai, from using actor Rajinikanth’s name, image, caricature and style of delivering dialogues in the forthcoming feature film Main Hoon Rajinikanth.

Justice S. Tamilvanan passed the interim order on an application in a civil suit by Mr. Rajinikanth.

In the application, the actor said he enjoyed a good reputation for his contribution to the film industry. He had come across press releases, posters and information about the proposed feature film.

Mr. Rajinikanth said the producer had exploited his superhero image in various movies for the benefit of the proposed feature film. The film also had scenes with immoral content, he alleged. The producer had not obtained his consent to use his name/caricature/image and style of delivering dialogues. This amounted to violation of his copyright.

Mr. Justice Tamilvanan said the intellectual property right was a recognised right. He said a prima facie case had been made out and the balance of convenience was in favour of Mr. Rajinikanth. Therefore, it was just to grant the interim injunction.
