The Federation of Residents’ Welfare Associations of Rajakilpakkam (FRWAR), which consists of 20 residents welfare associations, has initiated many programmes to keep the neighbourhood clean.

One of their first clean-up programmes was clearing plastic and other waste on from Madambakkam to Rajakilpakkam Main Road.

Now, they plan to take things to the next level.

Members will soon be launching a drive to recycle toys, clothes and electronic goods.

According to the plan, a team will collect used toys from residents and attend to those that require minor repairs.

“All toys and clothes can be recycled. We plan to restore the damaged toys and distribute them to orphanages,” said D. Suresh Kumar, a committee member.

The toys collection drive will begin in the last week of July. “If the drive is received well, we plan to take it to other localities and apartment complexes in the city,” he added.

The Federation is also planning to launch tree planting drive at various localities. 315 saplings have already been planted in the area.
