Art is a creative force, an expression from within and it stands as a testimony for man's development, said Governor Surjit Singh Barnala here on Friday.

Speaking at the 163rd birth anniversary of Raja Ravi Varma, Mr. Barnala said even to this day his works were in great demand in India, London and Paris. Ravi Varma tried to bring his art to the home of both the rich and the poor.

The Governor complimented Erode district for organising drawing competitions on the eve of Ravi Varma's birth anniversary, he said.

Earlier, Mr. Barnala distributed prizes to toppers in the drawing competition organised jointly by GV Mount Litera Zee School, Erode, Master Enterprises, Tiruchi and Valli Art Gallery, Erode.
