The city and suburbs may receive intermittent showers on Monday due to low pressure areas that have formed over the Bay of Bengal.
According to sources at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai, the low pressure areas between the southeast bay of the north of TN coast and southwest of the Sri Lankan bay, and another between the southeast of Bay of Bengal and neighbouring areas, are likely to bring sporadic showers to the city.
It may start raining early on Monday and the day will remain cloudy. The possibility of winds accompanied by rains is high in the suburban areas of Chennai.
Winds, ranging in speed from 45 to 55 kmph, are likely from the northeastern direction across the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts. Fishermen have been asked to exercise caution.
On Sunday, Nungambakkam recorded 2.7 mm and Meenambakkam recorded 3.7 mm of rainfall in the 12-hour-period that ended at 8.30 p.m., sources said.
