Rains likely in a couple of days

November 19, 2012 11:02 am | Updated 11:02 am IST - CHENNAI:

If you thought the nip in the air signified the end of monsoon, you may be in for a surprise.

A cyclonic storm is brewing in the Bay of Bengal. A deep depression over east central Bay of Bengal will intensify into a cyclonic storm and slowly move west-north westwards in the next 12 hours.

Will that bring more rains for the city? The meteorological department has not ruled out the possibility. Sources in the department said the city is likely to get rains by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. However, dry weather would prevail on Monday.

Northerly winds gusting between 15-20 knots may increase to 25-30 knots occasionally. The sea will be moderate to rough.

The system will move towards the coasts of south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu in the subsequent 72 hours. Presently, the deep depression lies centred about 900 km east-northeast of Chennai.

The department has forecast isolated rain or thunder showers for south Tamil Nadu on Monday.

The last time the city received rains was on November 8, and that too, was attributed to convectional activity.
