As part of the course on ‘Communication tools in PR,’ Pavai Centre for puppetry recently conducted a one-day workshop on puppetry for the second year PG students of the Public Relations Department of Stella Maris College.
The workshop included an introduction to the art of puppetry through a power point presentation that highlighted different types of traditional and contemporary puppet forms. The session also dealt with puppet traditions from different States and the use of puppets as tool for communication in the spheres of education, therapy, skill development and other application work. A demonstration of designing and creating mouth opening puppets equipped the students with skills required to make puppet characters to match the original scripts and songs they had already prepared on different aspects of organ donation and related legal issues.
The workshop came to a thought provoking and lively conclusion with group presentations by the students. The participants received certificates at the valedictory function.
The workshop was conducted by R. Bhanumathi, Managing Trustee, Pavai Centre for Puppetry.
