Pulicat fishermen protest

February 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - CHENNAI:

Members of the South Indian Fishermen’s Welfare Association staged a demonstration demanding immediate compensation for property loss suffered by fisherfolk of Chinna Mangodu village on the banks of Pulicat lake.

The fisherfolk lost their boats, nets and engines when fishermen from Andhra Pradesh entered their village and went on a rampage last April.

Members of the Association submitted a petition to the Director General of Police alleging residents of Chinna Mangodu were not allowed to participate in the protest despite having prior permission.
