Psychologist murder: nephew held

July 04, 2014 02:35 am | Updated 02:35 am IST - CHENNAI:

The police have arrested Immanuel (46), nephew of psychologist Emma Gonsalvez who was murdered recently, for forging documents and concealing evidence related to the murder investigation.

According to the police, Immanuel, who owns a resort in Neelankarai, had prepared a forged will leaving a majority of Dr. Gonsalvez’s property to himself. He has also been booked for obstruction of justice for not having reported the murder on time and for cleaning up the scene of murder before the police arrived.

On the night of June 13, when the psychologist was found dead in her apartment, Immanuel is said to have approached the hospital authorities for a death certificate stating it was natural death.

The hospital authorities, however, refused to issue the certificate since it did not appear to be a case of natural death. Further, when the police enquired if anything was out of place, he did not make a complaint.

Since only one laptop and a few pieces of gold jewellery were missing, it did not appear to be murder for gain, the police said.

Immanuel has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
