The services of an assistant professor, who had claimed that she was subjected to sexual harassment by a senior colleague at Loyola College, were terminated on Friday.
Professor Josephine Jeyashanthi (51) was abruptly fired by college authorities on Friday.
Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday afternoon, the assistant professor, who has been working in the Tamil department since 2007, said the college had constituted a committee to probe her complaint. However, she was not given a copy of the report.
She charged that she had received death threats from the person she had accused and decided to complain to the police.
Responding to the allegations, Loyola College Principal G. Joseph Anthony Samy refused to comment on the matter since it was sub judice. He however said the management had followed all mandated procedures in investigating Ms. Josephine’s complaint. “Ms. Josephine was on contract and was informed of her termination as per contract specifications. We sent her termination order and a cheque for a month's salary to her residence,” Mr. Samy said.
