July 10, 2010 02:29 am | Updated 03:41 am IST - CHENNAI:

The process of remitting professional tax is set to be made easier with the Chennai Corporation planning to accept the payment online.

The facility is expected to be launched within a fortnight on the civic body website: www.chennaicorporation.gov.in.

According to sources in the civic body, the facility would be similar to the one for paying property tax. Last year, around Rs.5.47 crore of property tax was paid online.

The Corporation is in the process of uploading data pertaining to professional tax payers, the sources added.

There are around 89,000 professional tax accounts, of which nearly 59,000 are individual accounts.
