The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has shelved its plan to go on strike from May 30. It had planned to go on a strike to urge the government take note of its concerns including, piracy, taxation under the GST and ticket prices.
Actor Vishal, council president, announced the decision on Sunday after a meeting of office-bearers and members.
“R.K. Selvamani of FEFSI and representatives of various associations including, Vikraman from Tamil Nadu Directors Association, held talks with us and we have decided to drop the strike plan. We want to make it clear that we had planned the strike to ensure that conditions in the industry improved and not to go against the government,” he said. Over the last few weeks, many sections of the industry had been opposed to the strike. The Tamil Nadu Film Chamber of Commerce and eight other organisations, which comprise distributors and theatre owners, had said they do not support the strike, a press release said.
