Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami assured the Assembly on Friday that steps would be taken to trace those who hurled kerosene-filled bottles at the Teynampet police station.

A lit kerosene bottle was hurled by an unidentified bike-borne duo at the station on Anna Salai on Thursday.

When Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin and Congress Legislature Party leader K.R. Ramasamy raised the issue in the House, Mr. Palaniswami informed that 12 persons were being questioned in this regard, adding that one of them, a resident of Teynampet whose identity matched the image of a suspect grabbed from a CCTV footage, was being quizzed separately.

Pointing to the delay in tracing the perpetrators behind the incident, Mr. Stalin questioned whether CCTVs at the Teynampet police station and elsewhere were functioning properly.

CM’s reply

In his reply, Mr. Palaniswami said, “Sometimes, the dust from the roads covers the camera. Hence, the visuals are not clear. You are aware that Chennai has been witnessing rainfall for over a week now.”
