Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan on Saturday wrote to Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami urging him to take steps to prevent north Chennai from getting flooded during the monsoon.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Mr. Ramakrishnan said Mr. Palaniswami should ensure that construction along the Ennore creek is avoided and mentioned the Kamarajar Port and the NTECL as the “culprits.”

Mr. Ramakrishnan alleged that the NTECL was dumping its waste in the river.

The Buckingham Canal should be desilted and the banks of waterbodies strengthened ahead of the rains.
