A prayer meeting was held on Monday in memory of Vidya, the 21-year-old woman who died after an acid attack last year.

Vidya was in a cyber café, when Vijaya Bhaskar flung acid at her as he feared he would not be able to marry her. Vidya died of her injuries a month later at Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.

Vijaya Bhaskar is currently out on bail. Vidya’s family organised a prayer meeting and provided breakfast to an orphanage in Velachery.

Vidya’s mother, J. Saraswathi, has returned to work as a domestic help. The victim’s brother, Vijay, works in a fabrication unit. Vidya’s father, Jayapal, died when she was eight years old.
