Postal services may be affected on Thursday as several members of National Federation of Postal Employees plan to go on strike with a charter of demands, including better infrastructure in core banking solutions (CBS) networked post offices.
For over a year now, employees say the CBS-enabled post offices were having hiccups in server connectivity. This led to delays in transactions over the counter and they had to deal with the frayed tempers of customers.
Though the employees have been demanding better infrastructure and equipment, there has not been much improvement, they complained. The union members held a demonstration in the city seeking new equipment in post offices for speedy transactions and also filling up vacancies.
J.Srivenkatesh, circle president, NFPE (Group-C), said though targets had been fixed for some schemes such as rural postal life insurance and Selvamagal Thittam, the employees were unable to carry out transactions owing to problems in CBS network.
