At night, motorists driving through a section of Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam 200ft Radial Road, between Kovilambakkam and Eechangadu, have to rely on the light from headlights for illumination.

The street lamps on this section are few and far between.

Though there are lamp posts near the intersection of Vinayagapuram and Viduthalai Nagar Extension, they do not provide sufficient illumination. “It is not safe for motorists to drive on the stretch after sunset with just the headlights of the vehicles turned on. Speed-breakers with reflectors must be created at strategic spots to prevent motorists from speeding,” says R. Aishwarya, a resident of Vinayagapuram.

Given the volume of vehicles passing through the stretch, lack of illumination is a major problem.

Moroever, the high-beam lights from vehicles coming in the opposite direction blurs the vision of motorists.

The Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam 200ft Radial Road is maintained by the State Highways. The local body governing this section has to ensure illumination on this section.
