Ponmudi seeks quashing of case

Former DMK Minister K.Ponmudi has filed a petition before the Madras High Court seeking to quash the criminal proceedings against him pending before the Judicial Magistrate, Tiruvarur, for alleged offences including criminal intimidation.

Mr.Ponmudi submitted that he addressed a meeting on June 5, 2011 to thank the electorate of Tiruvarur for electing DMK president M.Karunanidhi in the Assembly elections.

AIADMK town secretary R.Dakshinamoorthy filed a complaint against him alleging various offences. Based on it, the Tiruvarur town police had registered a case. The petitioner said he had not spoken ill of the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

Justice R.S.Ramanathan has posted the case for further hearing on January 21.
