Sleuths of the Crime Branch — Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) and personnel drawn from the law and order, crime and special teams of Kancheepuram district police launched a massive combing operation in Siruseri, where a 23-year-old woman was found murdered on Saturday afternoon.

Several teams of policemen descended on the scene of crime and were divided into batches. The teams were given specific jobs such as picking up objects around the spot and quizzing those in the vicinity.

Policemen formed a perimeter for about 200 metres around the spot where she was found dead. The perimeter, police said, was to make sure that no one other than the investigating policemen approached the area. The spot was watched throughout the night on Saturday and Sunday too.

On Monday morning, forensic experts and canine units visited the scene.

Policemen from Kancheepuram district, who assisted the investigation that was carried out under the supervision of CB-CID officers, combed the vast area around the scene of the crime, picking up empty liquor bottles, paper and plastic cups, discarded footwear, combs, clothing and every other object that was likely to offer clues. Dhaksha, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) designed at Anna University, was deployed to conduct a complete aerial survey of the spot and take pictures.

A section of employees from Tata Consultancy Services, in which the victim was working since 2013, spoke to policemen and expressed their anguish over the gruesome murder of their colleague. Police officials were tight-lipped on the possible motive and what exactly happened after the victim left her office late on the night of February 13, but hinted that their investigation was in the right direction.
